Art works on Tracys way home
We didn't have a specific user group but we do now. We chose 4 different night shift workers who all come across public art on their walk (or bike ride) home. Each person traveles from their place of work to ther house and on their way they come across our chosen collection of statues in the pbublic space. The reason for an x beign created by the routes it's to show through our diagram that night shift workers can cross each others paths in the public space.
User Stories
The first thought we had was that our users have one path during the night that goes from point A to point B. For our specific user group point A would most likely be work and point B home. Even though this does map our users trip during the night it doesn't show their interaction with the our chosen collection.
In our second visual metaphor we wanted to show the multiple options and paths that someone might have during the night. It combines the frst visual metaphor of one persons path in the night and creates a diagram that shoes how each person crosses paths. Since we had no specific group of user we took all different possibilieties of why someone might be outside into account. This spanned from those taking a walk, public transport drivers, people who are waiting for their train, people that went out to go to a club and those that like to take walks in the dark hours of the day.

3. when you are focused on your final destination and not paying much attention to your surroundings

Louise`s way from work to home is a mixture of the everyday buzz of city life, and this peaceful almost as in a fairytale atmosphere.
Another thing that I noticed was that I did not see some of the artworks, when I was walking "in her shoes". Mainly because they were too small, or hidden.

Another thing that I experienced was the little amount of time that it takes the amosphere to go from extremely buzy and loud to peaceful, calm and relaxed. It was because of Het park and its feature to muffle the noise, created by all of the cars, driving on the main road.
I believe that she is thankful to be able to enjoy some extra minutes of calmness and joy on her way home.
Moreover, being in a rested state of mind is letting you to pay more attention to your surroings. Which we, as designers, must take into consideration :)

John is not the luckiest user that we have. I followed his way from home to work and, to be honest, I was expecting to see more than I actually did. He lives really close to the Blaak area, so he has a lot to see in his surroundings, but not that much on his way to work. The area is quite busy (traffic and a lot of people) during the day, but probably less of that during the night. John is passing by a higher number of shops and residential buildings, which might be not that interesting when you are seeing them every day/night.

The most interesting artwork that he can enjoy on his way to work is the pink "Jamin monument", which is also a good one because he can have a small break, by sitting down on the artwork, because its shape allows him to do it. The colour of the artwork is the one that concerns me: the bright pink can take your attention really fast, you can see the artwork from far away, probably in the night as well. But the pink shade might not be suitable for John, so I am wondering if he would avoid it or enjoy it.
First Thoughts
Second Idea
Current Visual Metaphor
The assumption that our users are usually tired, so when they are going home (or to work), they are not paying much attention to their surroundings. The lines represent the different night shift workers as they travel from work to home and vice versa. The word "artworks" inbetween the two points have been blurred and placed randomly to represent how our user group sees the artworks during their trip.

Taking the trip of Martijn the statues I had to keep my eye on weren't always the easiest to spot even when I was on the look out for them. And I believe that being a night worker and travelling during the night makes it harder for people to spot the artworks since most of the statues that I passed were very dark in color and would blend with the night quite a bit. Another thing that came to my attention is that I was spotting statues that weren't placed on the map at all as well as I was not able to find a few of them either. Perhaps this was an issue of my own or the work is just placed in a hard to notice place. From the walk I was able to place my self closer to the our chosen user group and allowed e to gain more isight on what interface would be helpful to connect them with the chosen collection.
I have added the pictures of all the statues I noticed while taking the path of the user to understand from what angle they see each statue as well as how far away fro their actual path they all are.

Conclusions
Taking Tracy's route there weren't a lot of art works marked on the map. Going on the walk I expected to find more statues or pieces of art than shown because not everything can be made a note of since art keeps popping up at a rapid pace. My expectations were true I saw an art store on Tracy's way home with windows filled of small statues and art pieces. There was also a mural of birds on the street of her apartment. As I walked the path I noticed that the statues placed in water are hard to see in the first place as I almost walked past them making me draw the conclusion of making barely visible in the dark. From my walk I was able to udnerstand that the statues and art pieces would be hard to see at night (especially the darker ones placed in water) thus having the need for light or a way to point them out during the night.
